What Changed
Our SMS pipeline now uses regional carrier routing to choose the fastest delivery path for each message based on the recipient's carrier and location. Previously, all messages went through a single pipeline regardless of destination.
We also moved to persistent connections with our carrier partners, eliminating the handshake overhead that added 1-2 seconds to each message. The result is that 95% of messages arrive within 4 seconds, and the average is under 3.
Why It Matters
In queue management, seconds matter. When a customer's turn arrives and the notification takes 8-10 seconds, they might miss the window or feel like the system is not working. Faster delivery means fewer missed turns, smoother transitions, and higher customer confidence in the system.
For reservations, instant confirmation texts set the right expectation. A customer who books online and gets a confirmation in 2 seconds feels the system is responsive and trustworthy.
